I wrote a post yesterday about Viking names, but in case people wanted a handy reference as to how the patronymics and bi-names play out in Ragnar’s family I thought I’d provide.

The first picture is Ragnar’s family as far as the TV show goes. Please note that Ragnar’s children don’t have the surname Loðbrók (especially as the Norse didn’t use surnames). I gave Lagertha the bi-name Skjaldmær, or “Shield-maiden”, because a girl needs a bi-name.

For those who want to play on berserk-mode, the second one is Ragnar’s “historical” family tree, with Rollo and Gyða, who are 100% a-historical, added for the fun of it.

What does one have to do to be known as “the Boneless”?
A blog that picks at the historicity of the History Channel's "Vikings" in the spirit of impotent nerdery.
